Media Artist of immersive spaces. Founded and Director of Jena FullDome Festival, Germany
Micky Remann is a German-born media artist who explores immersive spaces both literally and symbolically. He founded and directs the international Jena FullDome Festival, which celebrates its 20 anniversary from 15 to 18 July 2026. This coincides with the 100 anniversary of the Zeiss Planetarium Jena, where modern planetarium technology was invented.
Micky Remann is an honorary professor of immersive media at the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Together with students and artists, he has pioneered immersive music theatre, transforming the planetarium into a multimedia performance space.
Micky Remann created the Liquid Sound® sonic experience, in which audiences enjoy a 'concert hall filled with water'. This concept was inspired by his musical interactions with wild orca whales in the North Pacific. It is now the signature attraction at three thermal baths in the Toskanaworld group in Germany. Popular events include the monthly Liquid Sound Club and the annual all-night Liquid Sound Festival.
Micky Remann is currently working on integrating the Liquid Sound® and Fulldome systems to create new, immersive, multisensory experience spaces.
Micky Remann studied German literature at Frankfurt University. Throughout his professional career, he has travelled extensively and published articles and books. In his lectures, he focuses on innovation in immersive art and media.
At the Panel THINK BIG:
Micky Remann will focus on the Jena FullDome Festival within the larger context of immersive media. Since 2007, the festival has established itself as a leading platform for professional, student, and independent producers and artists. It has made a significant contribution to the development of the 360° medium. The festival is a vibrant meeting place where art, technology and live performances in the dome come together. Its open spirit attracts visitors from the region and abroad. With over 800 entries from 30 countries and around 10,000 visitors since its inception, the Jena FullDome Festival is one of the largest events of its kind. The 20th edition of the festival will take place from 15–18 July 2026, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Zeiss Planetarium Jena.
The festival is a founding member of the 'Best of Earth Awards', an international collaboration of fulldome festivals with partners in the USA, Great Britain, Czechia, Australia and Canada.
