Best Pitch Winner m:brane 2021 signs deal with Wild Bunch

The m:brane 2021 Best Pitch Winner Séraphine has taken some serious steps forward since the last Forum. The animation, directed by Sarah Van Den Boom and produced by Valérie Montmartin (Little Big Story), is a stop-motion 3D animated adaptation of Marie Desplechin’s 2005 novel with the same name. About a 12-year-old girl growing up in Paris’ Montmartre commune in the late 19th century. The exquisitely executed pitch that won the m:brane jury’s heart resulted in €2,500 cash prize in March 2021.

Since then a number of interesting partners have stepped on board the project.

Not least notably the well known distributors Wild Bunch (theatrical distribution) and Elle Driver (international sales) have joined the project.

Also, the story board for Séraphine is drawn by Rémi Chayé, who directed the 2020 animation Calamity Jane.

The project is still in development. According to producer Valérie Montmartin the team hopes to start production in early 2023 and finalize the film in 2024. The team will be present at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux in the beginning of March.

We look forward to more news as this wonderful project moves forward!
