My career began at Household Cavalry Museum and then I headed north to Leeds Museums and Galleries. I worked for a brief spell with the Audience Agency before joining the Royal Armouries and then moved on to York Museum Trust. At the National Science and Media Museum (part of the Science Museum Group) I discovered the joy of science magic (AKA Science) and this really fired me up to share the wonder of STEM with others. My current role with the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust provides me with the opportunity to do so with one of the most incredible places on the plant – but one that many people we never travel to.
My path though the world of culture and heritage has focused on public engagement, and I have played key roles in major capital redevelopments, high-profile temporary exhibitions, events, fundraising, senior leadership and permanent gallery development. This has honed my experience in audience engagement, creative interpretation and design as well as project management, stakeholder management, internal and external communications, complex financial budgeting, operations, and strategic planning.
But at heart, I am a storyteller who is fascinated by the world around me from the mundane to the mind blowing and I enjoy sharing this journey with others. I’m truly passionate about my work and always eager to connect with other professionals from the culture and heritage worlds. Whilst I enjoy all aspects of my job, I think my favourite thing is working with a multidisciplinary team to see an idea come to realisation. As we go through that collaborative process, the ideas start to flow and that’s always the fun part. As both leader and team player I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
I have an MA in Museums Studies from the University of Leicester and a BA in History from the same institution.
